Overview
Position Purpose
A Welder, is responsible for assembling pieces of metal together or repairing damage in metal components using heavy machinery that emits high heat, melting the metal into shape. Their duties include reviewing blueprints, cutting metal into the appropriate shape and smoothing molten metal to remove creases.
Role and Responsibilities
Set up and operate, MIG, TIG and stick welding machines, manual press brakes, shearing machines, plasma and laser cutting machines, robot welding machine, plasma torches and cutting torches, etc.
Able to read and interpret blueprints or engineering plans
Specify and identify materials
Follow proper safety procedures while running any and all machines
Create jigs and fixtures for the purpose of welding parts together faster and more accurately every time
Keep work areas clean and organized
Load and unload parts or raw stock into machines
Verify that parts currently being fabricated are within tolerance
Spin balance impellers for various blowers
Must attend monthly safety and training exercises for the welding and fabrication shop
Must pass a yearly Weld Quality Test administered by the Supervisor
Required Skills
2+ years of Welding and fabrication experience in a manufacturing environment with MIG welders, TIG welding, stick welding, plasma cutting, manual and CNC equipment
Strong attention to detail, organized and computer literate
Good verbal and written communication skills
Maintain quality and safety standards
Keep accurate records of jobs completed
