Job Summary:

Has mastery of one specialty such as welding, fabricating, or polishing. Able to meet efficiency, budget and quality standards without unnecessary rework. Work is completed under minimal supervision of a team leader or manager. May train Level 1.

Essential Duties:

  • 1. Has a full understanding of various metals in the repair and production of towers, tanks, hardware, and other accessories for boats. TIG welding (button) on anodized aluminum.

2. Has the ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams and schematics.

3. Performs basic welding, soldering and fabrication tasks in the production of towers, tanks (water, fuel); brackets; exhaust pipes; shafts; deck hardware.

4. Examines welds for bead size and other specifications.

5. May prepare broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.

6. Able to perform work from written or verbal instruction and/or drawings and fabricate fixtures by taking accurate measurements, and using standard fabrication techniques when fitting and bending pipe and extrusions.

7. Understands the company’s billing/material charging system and can utilize company computer system.

8. Follow defined instructions and procedures in performance of tasks.

9. Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintain safe, clean work area.

10. All work to be performed to Palm Beach Towers’ quality standards.

11. Perform other related duties as necessary and assigned.

Qualifications:

Vocational, High School diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED) in metals technology

Two (2) to three (3) years machine/metal fabricating or TIG and oxidation acetylene welding experience

Past experience with stainless steel, aluminum, steel and anodized aluminum

Basic reading, math, and writing skills.

May be required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards

Knowledge and operation of hand and power tools such as friction saws, metal working machines, calipers, band saws and vise. Welding and brazing equipment, torches, and shields.

Complete set of personal machine shop tools.

Physical Requirements:

Lift and Carry over 25 lbs. and up to 60 lbs. on a frequent basis (over 40% and up to 70%).

May frequently lift or move heavy weight material and work in difficult positions.

Frequent mental and visual attention on an intermittent basis.

Must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, lift, push and pull, work at heights, and in small tight spaces.

Requires working under somewhat disagreeable conditions on a frequent basis where elements such as dust, dirt, heat, fumes, cold, vibration, noise, water or chemicals may be present.

Occasional respirator use may be necessary.

Work is performed in boats on and off the water.

Other Requirements:

Valid Vehicle Operator’s License

Requires flexibility to work various schedules that include early starts and weekends.

May be required to travel to customer, vendor, or other company locations

Periodic overtime required.
