Overview

AECOM is hiring Welder Helpers (Welder Apprentice) to join our CNRL Horizon project team. This is a temporary position on a 7/7 rotation schedule for a night shift starting on January 5th.

Welder Helpers assist welders perform a wide range of tasks at construction sites.

Responsibilities:
+ Apply safe work practices according to Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS) legislation and WHMIS in relation to welding trade

+ Select and describe the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe practices for climbing, lifting, rigging and hoisting in this trade

+ Describe the safety practices for hazardous materials and fire protection

+ Safely use hand tools and power tools

+ Safely assemble and use oxyfuel equipment

+ Cut and gouge using the plasma arc and carbon arc cutting processes

+ Read and interpret drawings

+ Locate and record heat numbers

+ Understand electrical concepts, types of metals and their characteristics, joints and weld types

+ Interpret welding symbols, distortion and methods of control

+ Identify weld faults

+ Interpret and apply Welder Instruction Sheets/ Weld procedures, selecting the correct welding rod and preheat temperatures based on the WIS/WP supplied to them

+ Comprehend and utilize trade math such as solving problems involving fractions and decimals, ratios and geometric formulas; utilize both metric and imperial measures

This is a fly-in/fly-out position and as such will be subject to the Government of Canada’s mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirements: _

Depending on your Vaccination status, it is a requirement to follow these instructions._

+ Fully Vaccinated (2 shots + 14 days) – Proof of vaccination and a rapid test done within 72 hours of travel (if you have been off CNRL site for more than 30 days).

+ Partially Vaccinated (1 shot) – Proof of 1 shot, and a PCR test done within 72 hours of travel.

+ Unvaccinated – If you are not vaccinated, you will not be permitted to board your charter flight as per Site and Federal Regulations.

+ Driving – If you are driving to site, you will require proof of a negative rapid test within 72 hours of travel.

+ As of December 21, in order to access any CNRL facility you will be required to be fully vaccinated.

_Conditions of Employment for this position are: _

1. For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Background Check policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, the role must complete a satisfactory pre-employment Background Check. This may consist of all or a combination of the following: Canadian Criminal Record check, an Employment Verification and/or an Education and Accreditation Verification.

2. For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Alcohol & Drug (A&D) policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, a position must provide evidence of a satisfactory Alcohol & Drug test in accordance with the Company’s Alcohol & Drug Policy. In order to be valid, the test must have been conducted at the direction of AECOM – O&G Business Unit.

Minimum Requirements

+ Must be registered in AIT’s (Alberta Industry Training) Welding Apprenticeship Program or equivalent from another provincial trades governing body

+ Knowledge of Welding

+ Common Safety Orientation (CSO) or (Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS-09 or 2020) Certification can be submitted if taken before January 2019)

+ Fall Arrest and/or Fall Protection (OSSA or Energy Safety Canada Certified)

+ Confined Space (OSSA or Energy Safety Canada Certified)

Preferred Qualifications

+ Previous oilfield maintenance or facility construction experience
