Description

The general purpose of this position is to weld points and splicers on beams then cut metal to size. All welding is completed outdoors.

Able to use tools including but not limited to cutting torch, air arc cutter, grinder, and hand tools in all positions without damage to adjoining parts.

The ability to complete the welding qualification test.

Ensure that all federal requirements and company guidelines are met and that all safety rules are followed when performing duties.

Can read and understand instructions, technical manuals, and blueprints.

Wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to: steel toe boots, eye protection, ear protection, gloves, hot work PPE, fall protection, respirators, and a variety of protective suits.

Cutting and washing-stoppers and d-rings on vessels, barges, and railcars.

Securing cargo-on railcars, barges, and vessels.

Heavy equipment repairs-removing pins and repairing buckets.

Able to work long hours and weekends if needed.

Able to climb up and down ladders inside vessels.

Demonstrate basic math & mechanical skills, including the reading of a tape measure.

Keep consistent, legible written and/or computerized records

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to a high noise level; moving mechanical parts, moving machinery, outside weather conditions (hot and humid summers) and elements; fumes from gasoline, oil, and grease.

Physical Demands

Be able to work long hours and weekends if needed.

Be able to climb up and down ladders inside the vessel.

Can see well enough to read gauges, precision measuring instruments, schematics, maintenance manuals as needed.

Can speak and hear well enough to communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and others within the company 100% of the time.

Can reach with arms and hands to perform inspection, maintenance, and repair duties when needed.

Able to bend, stoop, twist, kneel, squat.

Able to use hands to grasp, handle, finger and feel.

Can climb and balance well enough to mount equipment by climbing up and down steps as needed.

Able to lift 75 pounds without assistance.

Can wear PPE (hard hat, vest, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots) with no restrictions.

Requirements

High school education or general education diploma (GED).

Minimum of 2 years experience.

To appropriately perform the essential duties of this job, regular work attendance is required.

Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator driver’s license.

Must work with a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.

Must possess Safety training/certification as required by customers to work in their facilities and as required by Watco Companies at all locations.

Ability to pass training and required testing.
