Overview

BASIC PURPOSE:
The Welder II is responsible for the set up and operation of hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations or seams of fabricated metal products to produce quality precision parts to drawings and engineering information.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB:
Fabricates assemblies requiring structural rod-added welds and checks tolerances as required.

Performs leak tests on completed assemblies.

Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.

Ignites torches or starts power supplies and strikes arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits.

Clamps, holds, tack-welds, heat-bends, grinds or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.

Operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc and gas metal arc welding.

Monitors the fitting, burning and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion or expansion of materials.

Examines work pieces for defects and measures work pieces with straight edges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.

Studies sample parts, blueprints, drawings and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.

Performs ancillary duties as required
