Overview

Summary/Objective
The QC Inspector monitors shop production for fit-up and welding of structural steel members and parts under the direct supervision of QC Manager. Responsible for the implementation of the AMTX Quality Control program and all AMTX standards. Inspectors need a good understanding of the codes and standards of the industry and AMTX manufacturing system. The Inspector must be familiar with the inspection and welding processes as used in the industrial and commercial industry.

Quality Inspector Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform assigned duties within the requirements of the Project specifications, codes and standards as defined in contract documents and Company Quality Management system.
  • Learn to review drawings for accuracy and provide interpretation for production personnel where needed through the fabrication process.
  • Assist in the performance of 100% visual welding inspection for weld quality, size and location. Provide dimensional verifications of fabricated members, as time allows, for compliance with industry standards.
  • Learn the appropriate documentation for these inspections, testing and qualifications.
  • Assist in completing Non-conformance reports and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Assist in the performance of non-destructive testing of welds and materials.
  • Perform duties in a timely manner to ensure contract scheduling issues.
  • Comply with the code of ethics for Inspectors as provided by the American Welding Society.
  • Assist with receiving, in-process, and final inspection functions as needed by QA Manager.
  • Assist with and conduct periodic audits as needed by QA Manager.
  • Perform other tasks in support of company quality management system as directed by QA Manager.
  • Ability to effectively plan and organize workload to accomplish goals.
  • Knowledge of material characteristics as it pertains to fabrication and machining.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent, and 3-5 years of previous Welding Quality Control experience or similar trade school.
  • Must be dependable, reliable, and mature enough to handle equipment in a safe and sensible manner.
  • Ability to do simple math and/or algebraic formulas as deemed necessary by work type.
  • The ability to understand the working mechanism of tools and machinery under their responsibility.
  • Ability to communicate equipment problems, production quality numbers, and quality issues with proper individuals.
  • Additional preferred: Current Level 2 NDE certification for Magnetic Particle and Dye Penetrant Inspection.

Preferred Education and Experience

Product-related knowledge and experience.

Pay: $20.00 – $24.00 per hour
