WELDER JOB DESCRIPTION

Overview:

The primary purpose of this position is to perform the welding of Industrial Gas Turbine Components for the purpose of manufacture and repair in the Repair Process Department with minimal supervision according to manufacturing and customer requirements.

Skill Level 3

Job Responsibilities:

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS JOB DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT.

· Read & interpret travelers/documents to gather work instructions.

· Weld in accordance with manufacturing specifications.

· Must be able to properly set up welding station and machinery to perform welding.

· Select proper weld wire in accordance to product specifications.

· Prep and polish areas requiring weld.

· Perform repair welding and blending of gas turbine components.

o Perform structural repairs of Stationary Vane Shrouds.

o Inner Shroud Repairs both Gas and Non Gas Path Sides.

o Outer Shroud Repairs both Gas and Non Gas Path Sides.

· Belt sand/blend production components.

· Perform in-process inspection of parts.

· Able to remove excess weld, and braze and grit blast.

Education/Experience:

Requires a high school education or equivalent. Requires the ability to read, write, complete simple forms, and understand simple written instructions. Requires the ability to perform math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; also requires the simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, or diagrams.

AND

Must have successfully completed a certified welding curriculum resulting in a vocational diploma.

OR

Must have 2 years minimum experience equivalent in Gas tungsten arc welding (TIG).

Inattention, thoughtlessness, or careless operation of equipment or performance of duties may cause lost-time injuries to self or others.

Employee is responsible for own work only.

Responsibility for Equipment or Process

The equipment used (welding equipment) should not be damaged under normal use and care. Misuse may result in considerable damage to specific parts of equipment. Routine maintenance of the equipment is required.

Physical Demand

Moderate physical effort required with bending, stretching, walking, and standing. Gripping and grasping tools is common, as is the use of mechanical controls such as buttons, knobs, and levers. Some repetitive motion is involved in the execution of job tasks. A crane is available for lifting and carrying parts, fixtures, or cutting tools, which may weigh up to 50 pounds or more.

Mental/Visual/Auditory Demands

Constant mental and visual attention required to perform repetitive and variable responsibilities. Normal or corrected vision required.

Working Conditions

Possible contact with coating materials, fumes, and chemicals. Safety goggles/glasses and safety shoes are required for safety in the production area; ear protection, gloves, full face hooded air supply respirator, throwaway coveralls, and aprons may be required when completing some operations of the job.

Hazards

Care should be taken in the operation of equipment and in lifting and moving materials and tools to avoid accidents that may result in lost time injuries.

The employee in this position follows established procedures, exercising judgment in selection of methods or procedures to perform setups, plan, and make decisions based on knowledge of standards, policies, and procedures.

Errors not caught immediately may result in product failure and/or significant customer impact.

Job Prerequisites

§ Must successfully complete the Industrial Reading Test with a score of 70% or better.

§ Must have successfully completed Shop Math Test with a score of 70% or better.

§ Must have successfully completed Measuring Instruments Test with a score of 70% or better.

Or

Must successfully complete the Career Readiness/Work Key Tests with the following results:

§ Must demonstrate proficiency in one of the following welding processes:

A. Gas tungsten arc welding (TIG)

B. Metal inert gas welding (MIG)
C. Shielded metal arc welding (ARC)
D. Gas metal arc welding

§ Must demonstrate the ability to setup and operate related welding equipment to perform any or all of the specified welding applications.

§ Must complete certification in qualification tests as dictated by welding process applications. Must pass practical weld test using Gas tungsten arc welding (TIG) application.

§ Must have successfully completed a certified welding curriculum resulting in a vocational diploma or must have 2 years minimum experience equivalent in Gas tungsten arc welding (TIG).

Skill Level 4

Job Responsibilities:

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS JOB DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT.

· Must meet all job responsibilities for Welding Skill Level 3.

· Must be able to use precision measuring instruments and tools.

· Must have good routing and blending abilities on all Turbine components.

· Able to remove coating overspray, excess weld and braze.

· Perform in-process inspection of parts.

Education/Experience:

· Must have successfully completed a certified welding curriculum resulting in a vocational diploma and must have 2 years minimum experience equivalent in Gas tungsten arcwelding (TIG).Experienced in welding super-alloys for both rotating and stationary components.

OR

Must have 3 – 5 years minimum experience equivalent in Gas tungsten arc welding (TIG).

AND

Must have 1 year minimum experience in Gas Turbine Component repair.

AND

Must be proficient in at least one of the below listed skills:

o Perform structural repairs of Stationary Vane Airfoils, Shrouds and Combustion Hardware and perform Dimensional restoration (Vanes and Combustion Hardware).

o Abilities to install and weld Vanes (New Parts/Repaired) and Combustion assembly details.

o Abilities to perform Chamber Welding repairs (Blades).

Skill Level 5

Job Responsibilities:

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS JOB DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT.

· Must meet all job responsibilities for Welding Skill Level 3 and Skill Level 4.

· Able to perform repairs on multiple Gas Turbine components (Blades, Vanes, Transitions, etc.).

· Capability to train other employees on specific skills.

· Perform incoming assessment inspections to provide recommendations for component repair scope.

Education/Experience:

· M_ust have successfully completed a certified welding curriculum resulting in a vocational diploma and must have 4 years minimum experience equivalent in Gas tungsten arc welding (TIG). _Experienced in welding super-alloys for both rotating and stationary components.

OR

Must have 5 years minimum experience equivalent in Gas tungsten arc welding (TIG).

AND

Must have 5 years minimum experience in Gas Turbine Component repair.

AND

Must be proficient in at least two of the below listed skills:

· Perform structural repairs of Stationary Vane Airfoils, Shrouds and Combustion Hardware.

· Abilities to perform Dimensional restoration (Vanes and Combustion Hardware).

· Abilities to install and weld Vanes (New Parts/Repaired) and Combustion assembly details.

· Abilities to perform Chamber Welding repairs (Blades).

· Abilities to operate and perform repairs using the Hot Box (Induction Welding).

· Abilities to operate and process production using the Laser Welder(s).

· Abilities to perform and or support Blade Ring Rebuilds.

· Ability to train others and work unsupervised.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $20.00 – $22.00 per hour
