Overview

( Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to Head, Laundry Maintenance, Manager or designate, performs skilled welding and machining work at the journeyman level, such as fabricating, welding, constructing and assembling metal components; maintaining, repairing and/or servicing laundry equipment, building and machinery; machining, altering, troubleshooting, assembling and installing machine parts and components in compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Operates mechanical room equipment to ensure continuous operation. Maintain steam distribution and gas fired equipment as required by codes and regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
Certificate of Apprenticeship as a journeyman Class B Welder recognized by the Province of BC. Certificate of Competency as a Fourth Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of BC Two years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Skills And Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to deal with others effectively.
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications.
Ability to organize work.
Ability to operate related equipment.
