Overview

The Maintenance & Repair Assistant – Welder/Fitter is responsible for assisting with the general maintenance and repair projects of company vessels, land assets, and safely operating the company forklift. This team member will be expected to produce quality work to ensure the product meets quality standards. This position will report directly to the Port Engineer.
Essential Functions

  • Fabricate and manufacture metal parts for later assembly.
  • Follow diagrams, drawings, and specifications to ensure exact specifications of output
  • Produce strong, clean welds and test output to ensure strength and tolerance of welds.
  • Utilize handheld tools such as a handheld screw gun, drill gun, and grinders.
  • Operate calipers, weld gauges, tape measures, and other welding hand tool.
  • Maintain weld machines using preventative maintenance methods.
  • Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation when defects are identified.
  • Rework and/or repair welded parts and products according to engineering specification changes.
  • Assist with fleet repair projects as well as the maintenance of the barge, company buildings and grounds.
  • Less than 25% of the time, perform safe and efficient operation and maneuver of company forklift.
  • Perform routine maintenance of company forklift such as oil changes, painting, etc.
  • Determine and notify Port Engineer of malfunctioning parts of any fleet equipment.
  • Maintain company crew change vehicles for service maintenance and cleanliness
  • Assist with various transportation needs as they arise
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Prior Experience welding and fitting, preferably in a shipyard environment
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to pass ABS certification course.
  • Must have or be eligible for TWIC credential
