Overview

Caltrax is a Calgary based full service railcar repair facility with a new location located south east of Lethbridge. From this new facility, we provide railcar repair services including interior lining, cleaning and mechanical work. We are currently looking for Railcar Repair Technician with welding experience to join our team.

This role requires more than welding! As a Carman, you will have the opportunity to learn about railcar repair regulations and be prepared to complete mechanical repairs on various equipment using a variety of hand tools. Work may be performed in confined spaces and from heights as well as in indoor and outdoor settings.

Duties include:

  • Perform scheduled and on demand maintenance including: welding repairs, air brake tests, pre-trip maintenance, surface cleaning for decaling, etc
  • Remove and replace defective components (trucks, shoes, coupler assemblies, air brake systems)
  • Safely operate acetylene torches, power tools (drills, power saws, grinders); electric and gas welding equipment and various other hand tools (pliers, wrenches, hammers)
  • Identify AAR violations and interpret necessary repair procedures
  • Read, understand, and interpret work order information while maintaining accurate record of repairs
  • Attention to detail to ensure thorough and precise repair records
  • Perform independent troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Work to required safety standards at all times

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications

  • At least three years of previous welding experience
  • Mechanical experience an asset
  • Previous railcar experience a definite asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to perform work with limited supervision and as part of a team

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $22.00-$27.00 per hour

Experience:

  • welding: 2 years (preferred)
