Coco Paving has an opportunity available for a Welding/Mechanical Lead located at its Millhaven Asphalt Cement Terminal located in Bath, Ontario (approximately 20 km west of Kingston, ON).

In addition to the heavy civil construction company, Coco Group owns and operates, an asphalt cement terminal (Millhaven) and Emulsion Plant (Coco Asphalt Engineering), a number of pits, quarries and asphalt plants, residential construction business and golf course.

What’s involved?

Reporting directly to the Terminal Supervisor, duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Leadership of welders and fitters
  • Ensuring accurate material and labour costs allocated to each project
  • Addressing employee performance-related issues should they be required
  • Completion of quality documentation as related to the works performed
  • Inspection of incoming material and inventory control
  • Ensuring the welding quality control program is being adhered to
  • Review drawings, blueprints and specifications to ensure design will function as intended
  • Fabricate and install pipelines in the field carrying asphalt cement, hot oil, calcium chloride, fuel, and steam
  • Repair and maintain heavy equipment and machinery, as well as fabrication of bins, shop supplies, equipment and other required items; both in the shop and other field locations
  • Work safely and productively to produce quality work
  • Ensure accuracy and completion of assigned tasks
  • Work in accordance with all Health & Safety policies and procedures

What’s required?

  • Must have journeyperson certificate
  • Experience with ASME B31.3 Piping and API 650 Tank construction codes
  • Experience with ASME BPV requirements and procedures for welding qualification
  • Experienced in SMAW, MIG, TIG and other welding machines
  • Experience with heavy equipment maintenance and repair welding
  • Able to fabricate and weld a variety of metals according to drawings and specifications
  • Able to work independently in a busy environment
  • Must be fluent in English and able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Detail oriented
  • Working knowledge of related health and safety practices
  • Creative and effective problem solver
  • Mathematical aptitude
  • Physically fit
  • Willing to travel to other company shop and plant locations in the Kingston/Belleville area and possibly beyond.
  • Must be able to work overtime as required
