JOB

The Welder works in the maintenance shop and on site at BREC centers and facilities, operating acetylene electric arc welding equipment, repairing and rebuilding metal equipment and parts including vehicle parts, cages, fences and other equipment for use by Maintenance and Recreation facilities.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Education Required: H. S. diploma, GED, or equivalent completion of a 4 year apprenticeship program.Education Preferred: Associates degree in related field.Area of Study Required: WeldingLicense(s) Required: Valid LA driver’s license.Years Relevant Work Experience: 4 years fabrication welding experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered..Years Relevant Work Experience Preferred: 10 or more years related experience.Other Job Specifications: Considerable knowledge of arc & mig welding and acetylene torch useConsiderable knowledge of the properties of ferrous and non-ferrous metals in weldingConsiderable knowledge of occupational hazards and safe operations of the tradeGood communication/interpersonal skillsMust have a positive attitude with the willingness and desire to learn new skillsAbility to adjust to changing work demands, procedures, technology, and/or prioritiesSkill in the use & operation of welding tools & machinesAbility to read blueprintsAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsAbility to drive a BREC/Vehicle and/or equipment to perform essential dutiesAbility to read and write the English language and prepare reportsAbility to establish & maintain effective working relationships with others

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Functions and Duties: Performing welding repairs to assigned BREC equipment and facilities.General fabrication of various items as assigned.Cleaning and preheating metals, selecting proper welding heat, type and size of electronics for correct penetration and strength of welded metals.Joining metal parts or pieces by heating and with or without filler metal.Running welding machine while observing meters and gauges to monitor compliance with procedures.Visually examining welds for adherence to specifications.Repairing and rebuilding various equipment, parts, mowers, tractors, trucks, etc.General repair of all iron work.Repair of signs, cages and gates.Building pipe rails for parking lots and installing security cages over heaters and air conditioners.Complying with employee rules and regulations as established by BREC.Adhering to safety regulations and principles.Secondary Job DutiesProviding instruction and guidance to temp workers and helpers.Assisting other staff with routine work.Other duties as assigned.
