Scope of Work

Performs all welding work for the Parks, Recreation and Sports Complex Divisions under the direction of the Parks Division Construction Supervisor.

Essential Job Duties

Performs all tasks related to welding or metal supplies.

Designs, constructs and repairs facilities and/or equipment that must be welded.

Inventories supplies and materials and replaces or orders when necessary. Contacts vendors in order to secure prices.

Determines dimensions of metal to be fabricated.

Clean and maintain shop facilities, equipment, tools and grounds.

Ability to follow safety practices and procedures needed to operate equipment and tools safely.

Performs other tasks as directed by the Parks Division Construction Supervisor

Physical and Environmental Conditions

Ability to sit, stand and transport self from building to building. Ability to drive a vehicle to and from various worksites. Employee will work in seasonal temperatures bending, lifting and moving pieces of equipment such as sheet metal, welding machines, cutting torches, grinders and drills to complete work or make repairs on facilities or equipment. Employee may be exposed to potentially hazardous electricity or fumes while performing job duties.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

Ability to read and understand work orders and equipment manuals. Skill in the operation of hand tools and equipment such as welding machines and the appropriate use of acetylene and oxygen. Ability to determine proper measurements in order to fabricate metal. Ability to drive vehicles to and from work sites. Must wear specialized safety equipment such as respirators and protective clothing in performing duties. Required to perform heavy lifting frequently. Safety classes, hearing protection and gloves are provided. Steel toed shoes are required. Uniforms and steel toed shoes will be provided after six (6) full months of employment.

Minimum Education, Experience and Certification

High school diploma or equivalent plus three to five years of experience as a welder. Valid Texas driver’s license required.
