Overview

Primary Objective: Supports production operations by designing, fabricating, joining and repairing materials and equipment while meeting or exceeding standards of quality, productivity and safety. This position works under minimal to moderate supervision.

Key Job Duties:

1. Sets up and operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to weld and unite metal parts in flat, vertical or overhead positions using tools such as an arc welder, mig-welder, plasma cutter, chop saw, oxyacetylene torch, etc.

2. Lays out, positions, aligns and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers and rulers.

3. Clamps, holds, tack-welds, heat-bends, grinds or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.

4. Fills holes, indentations or seams of fabricated metal products.

5. Monitors the fitting, burning and welding processes to avoid problems relevant to overheating warping, shrinking, distorting or expanding of materials.

6. Measures finished product and examines for defects to ensure conformance with specifications.

7. Cuts metal, drills holes, sharpens and shines metals.

8. Designs and creates holding jigs that aid in the fabrication of parts.

9. Reads and interprets technical drawings, blueprints and other specifications.

10. May operate drill presses, power saws, grinders, metal lathes and a variety of welding equipment and hand tools.

11. Uses basic mathematic skills to solve problems pertaining to welding functions.

12. Performs routine maintenance on equipment and determines when and what kind of maintenance is needed.

13. Maintains records as needed.

14. Assist in training other welders.

15. Assists in other areas and performs additional tasks as needed.

16. Participates and contributes to lean manufacturing journey.
