Overview

Does skilled work in the heating, welding, cutting, brazing, and fabricating of metals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Lay out, cut, or fit materials for welding, and weld materials to withstand high and low pressures;

Prepare and maintain metal parts of maintainers, trucks, loaders, tractors, ditchers, and similar equipment;

Repair trucks and automobile bodies, weld broken parts, and make new parts;

Heat and shape parts and perform skilled cutting, brazing, and soldering;

Bend, draw, and forge various grades of iron and steel and repair metal parts of tractors and other equipment;

Document work orders.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional one to three years experience as a welder; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

Valid Current Driver’s License

Physical Exam Required

Class C Water Distribution.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
The standard tools, materials, methods, and practices of the welding trade;

The properties of metals in relation to welding and brazing operations;

The occupational hazards of the work and necessary safety precautions.

Ability to:
Work from plans, sketches, and blueprints;

Perform skilled welding and related metal work;

Work in confined spaces using proper safety equipment;

Communicate effectively with others.

Physical Requirements:
frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Maintain the ability to:

1.continuously stand and walk during the shift;

2.occasionally reach up, at or below shoulder height;

3.frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees;

4. push or pull objects;

5.coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
