Overview
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Shop Manager, the Shop Assistant/JM Welder-Wire-Process Operator will set-up and operate various equipment in our tool design and assembly facility and carry out other job duties as required. The Shop Assistant/JM Welder-Wire Process Operator will also be responsible for maintaining their equipment and interpreting shop drawings, and to coach/mentor apprentice welders as needed.
DUTIES
- Operate and maintain welding equipment.
- Weld, fabricate and assemble metal products as per customer requirements.
- Operate bucking unit, including Wincatt torque monitoring system.
- Operate phosphate tank.
- Operate band saw, column drill, shop press, drill press, pipe handling equipment, overhead and jib cranes and other shop equipment as required.
- Assist in tool assembly which may include the use of hand tools, power tools and vices as required.
- Occasional use of forklift.
- Assist and follow instruction from Shop Manager when required.
- Upkeep and preventative maintenance of equipment.
- General shop duties to include housekeeping and other duties as assigned.
- Work in conjunction with the Quality Control/Assurance Department to ensure a consistent and quality product.
- Work in conjunction with the HSE and HR departments to promote a safe working environment and provide feedback on training needs both internally and externally.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Journeyman Welder-Wire Process Operator Certification
- High School or GED
- Overhead Crane Certification
- Forklift Operator Certification
- Minimum one-year shop experience
- WHMIS, First Aid, TDG as required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Ability to read blue prints
- Familiarity with shop tools/equipment
- Time management Self-motivated
- Strong attention to detail
- Legible printing for paperwork Organizational skills
- Work with little direct supervision
- Goal orientated
- Ability to work as an individual or as part of a team
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
