Overview
ROLE
The Welder’s apprentice is responsible for providing assistance to the Journeyman Welders while learning the trade by performing duties, such as supplying or holding materials or tools and cleaning the work area and equipment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with welding operations.
- Operate small power tools for the preparation of material (such as a power grinder).
- Set up work as required.
- Perform general housekeeping duties.
- Prepare and paint finished fabricated structures.
Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Must be registered in the Alberta apprenticeship scheme.
Experience
- No previous work experience required.
- 1 year of experience in a construction, agricultural, maintenance or manufacturing position required.
- 1 year or more experience in a fabrication and welding environment would be preferred.
Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to read and interpret drawings preferred.
- Ability to concentrate on detailed work.
- Good vision and hand-eye coordination.
- Manual dexterity.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is based in Spruce Grove and will be 10 hours per day 5 days per week. Overtime beyond that would be available.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Welder’s Helper reports to the Welder and Welding Foreperson. The position has no supervisory duties.
