Overview

This position will work with Lead Hands, Charge Hands and Foremen to ensure continuous improvements using SMAW, MCAW, GMAW, FCAW and semi-automatic welding processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding: gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), shield metal arc welding (SMAW), and metal core arc welding (MCAW)
  • Operate and maintain flame-cutting and plasma arc cutting equipment
  • Conduct repairs, modifications and retrofits
  • Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
  • Align components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (flat, vertical, horizontal or overhead)
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
  • Operate metal shaping machines such as brake, shears and hydraulic band saw
  • Monitor parts usage and report on any material issues
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance and repair techniques
  • Ensure compliance with Industry, Legislative, and corporate Safety policies and procedures
  • Assist in training and directing less trained personnel with work methods, work habits and performance
  • Recommend changes to improve quality and productions costs
  • Operation of overhead crane

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • AB (or SK) Registered Apprentice/Journeyman
  • Previous experience in tank fabrication a definite asset
  • CWB tickets considered an asset
  • Safety training an asset but willing to train as required
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills and able to work effectively in a diverse, fast-pace environment
