PURPOSE:

As a team member of the manufacturing shop, a Welder’s Helper – Night Shift assists the welders in building helical screw piles by prepping raw materials of steel plate and pipe to facilitate the fabrication of screw piles. Coordinates with all manufacturing staff for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently and effectively. Assists other team members as required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

DUTIES:

  • Operate and maintain metal working machinery such as band saws, burn tables, drill presses and hydraulic presses
  • Read and interpret internal work orders and supporting documentation
  • Operate semi-automatic flame cutting equipment
  • Select and transport metal stock to work area manually and/or using overhead crane or forklift
  • Properly and safely load and unload metal materials in machinery
  • Complete general housekeeping and organizing of the yard and manufacturing facilities
  • Complete material and product labeling and bundling to assist with shipping and receiving
  • Assist welders in completing their assigned tasks
  • Comply with company safe work practices and procedures
  • Various other duties as required

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work with small hand tools, clamps, and grinders
  • Previous shop experience and a mechanical aptitude would be considered an asset
  • 1st or 2nd year apprentices will be considered for the role
  • Forklift and overhead crane use considered an asset

EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Alberta Class 5 (or higher) driver’s license and your own vehicle; no public transportation available
  • Ability to complete pre-employment testing, including but not limited to a medical questionnaire and a 50 lbs. back assessment

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Fast paced, high volume production facility
  • Moderate to high noise level
  • Physically demanding with constant lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Temperatures contingent upon weather
