Job Description

Visually inspect 100% of the welds from the assigned production line

Identify non-conforming (weld length, cracks, craters, etc.) and/or missing welds

Read and understand shop drawings, welding symbols, tape measure

Verify main dimensions for a pre-determined quantity of joists produced (dimensions, holes for shoes and connections, dimensions of shoes, dimension of components, sweep, camber, tilt of shoe)

Add or repair welds (including multi-pass welds) when inspection identifies need

Lift joists with crane for inspection and placement ready for paint

Work with welders, tackers and painters to maintain production flow

Advise workplace parties of quality issues/concerns as found

Practice good housekeeping including 5S and time management in the performance of daily duties

Comply with all legislated and company health, safety, environmental, quality, and Lean policies, procedures and programs

All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent

Ability to:
read and interpret shop drawings

communicate, read and write in English is a must

work safely and maintain production demands

produce welds that meet company quality standards (CWB 47.1)

Should be able to operate crane and work at a pace established by production

Additional Information

Physical Demands: The nature of this position also requires the employee to perform a wide range of physical activities, ranging from pushing and pulling, lifting and carrying heavy objects (50-70lbs), to sitting, climbing, crouching, kneeling, bending and handling with repetitive hand and finger movements. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.

Work Environment: The employee constantly works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to welding fumes and airborne particles. The employee may also be at risk of experiencing flash burns, skin burns, electrical shocks and high noise levels. Personal Protective Equipment must always be worn (including but not limited to: metatarsal safety boots, safety glasses, welding helmet, welding gloves/sleeves, earplugs and respiratory protection).
