Overview

This position is accountable for all internal costs that are charged to the work order and for the gross margin of the project.

1. Oversees costs associated with all quoted welding projects in the welding shop

  • Visits customer’s sites as required to quote welding projects (ex: shovel bucket assembly, stick, truck box etc.)
  • Prepares an accurate quote based on customer request along with any additional work found
  • Delivers the quote for the project to the customer once the quote has verified the appropriate approval process and answers any questions associated with the bid package
  • Secures the purchase order for the project prior to commencing work and generates the work order request
  • Communicates with the Welding Supervisors priorities for all shop quoted projects
  • Orders and secures all material for the project
  • Communicates weekly within the welding department in conjunction with the welding supervisors the labour hours to date in relation to quoted hours
  • Updates the customer weekly on the progress of the project (primary contact for customer)
  • Responsible to review and advise the Welding Superintendent when the project is ready to close

2. Support responsibilities for Welding Supervisors / Quality Assurance Inspectors

  • Working in conjunction with Quality Assurance Inspector to provide job scope for quoted project to Welding Supervisors
  • Contact the customers for answers to questions the Supervisors may have for clarity purposes
  • Notify the customers of found work and get appropriate approvals as required
  • Communicate customer priorities and deadlines to the Welding Supervisors and Quality Assurance Inspectors

3. Customer Service

  • Serves customers by providing accurate timely welding project quotes as requested
  • Communicates regularly with customer on project status while in the welding shop
  • Ensures any extra work is approved by the customer and a revised purchase order is received prior to commencing work
  • Communicates to customer promptly any extra found work while project is in the welding shop

Work in alignment with Welding Supervisors, and Welding Superintendent to ensure that customer requests are being fulfilled in regards to all quoted work in the welding shop. Accurately quote welding projects and manage all internal costs associated with the project to ensure that the welding shop is profitable on the quoted project.

Communications are primarily for the purpose of keeping the welding shop knowledgeable on quoted labour hours, priorities and deadlines on quotes projects.

Position also has external communications for the purpose of keeping the customer regularly updated on progress of the projects in the SMS welding shop.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Position requires a thorough knowledge of maintenance, repair and fabrication of mining equipment.
  • Requires journeyman welding certification with a minimum of 5-7 years relevant experience.
  • Ability to oversee and coordinate large field and shop operations; supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Also requires knowledge of C.W.B, W.C.B, and OH&S acts and regulations, and equipment inspection requirements
