We currently looking for a Welding/Fabrication Lead to work at our Stanley Infrastructure / CWS Industries (Mfg) plant based in Surrey, BC. The position reports to the Production Group Lead at the plant.

Summary
The Welding/Fabrication Lead is a key member within our manufacturing plant. The successful candidate is responsible for leading the team to successfully manufacture product and ensure on time delivery of the product. As this is an integral role the successful candidate must be able to build solid internal relationships with the Group Lead and production associates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned team while demonstrating a Safety Always mind-set that holds all leaders and team members to a high standard where safety and integrity are concerned.
  • Plan daily production for the team and communicate it visually and verbally i.e. dispatch reports
  • Lead a start-of-shift 10-minute meeting to discuss previous day s safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance, current day s plans and lead morning stretch
  • Monitor workflow requirements and work to handle issues that may arise so that team members can continue working consistently on their job responsibilities
  • Ensure standard work and work sequences are being followed and hold operators accountable to meet quality standards and achieve allotted time for operations
  • Anticipate and eliminate problems that may affect the team s ability to perform
  • Propose solutions and work with appropriate stakeholders to eliminate identified issues
  • Participate in creating and ensuring standardized processes are followed to reduce variation and improve flow
  • Participate in creation of standard work procedures for assigned department
  • Identify capacity constraints and flex workforce to ensure customer requirements are met
  • Understand & execute, as applicable, inventory, workorder, audit, drawing, ERP/MRP paperwork & computer transactions
  • Responsible for all training and cross-training within the assigned Department
  • Manage and maintain team improvement level 1 daily layered accountability board and metrics. Reporting daily level 1 KPIs to level 2 daily layered accountability board.
  • Responsible for daily/weekly audits including 5(6) S, product quality, system quality, process, 2nd level work cell, Behaviour Based Safety, Level 1 D.L.A., Kanban, etc.
  • Responsible to drive and maintain 5 (6)S, cell audits, behaviour based safety observations, and all other management tools
  • Drive and lead continuous improvement initiatives within designated teams
  • Participate and execute Kaizen events
  • Cultivate and foster a culture of continuous improvement within assigned team

You are an individual with ..

  • A red seal/journeyman ticket or equivalent experience (fabrication preferred or welding)
  • At least 3 to 5 years experience in a manufacturing metal fabrication environment
  • Strong leadership capabilities, together with at least 2 years supervisory experience, preferably in a similar manufacturing environment
  • An in-depth understanding and practice of lean manufacturing principles
  • Knowledge of an ERP manufacturing software
  • Excellent training, supervising and giving performance feedback abilities
  • Superior interpersonal skills and experience in organizing and guiding production associates
  • Innovative, having an eye for quality and detail orientated skills
  • An outstanding ability to be a critical thinker, with communication, collaborative problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Capabilities to work in a fast-paced environment dealing with ad-hoc issues when required
  • Sound health and safety experience, and knowledge of H&S policies & practices
