Williams and White is a company specializing in the production of mechanical components and fabrications used in a variety of industrial applications

The primary role is to ensure that Williams & White ships products that meet our customers’ quality requirements, including both physical characteristics and required documentation.

The individual will primarily be responsible for measuring machined and fabricated parts, both incoming and outgoing. Also, drive the root cause analysis for defects to support our efforts to develop standard work for the organization. The individual will regularly look for new ways to improve the quality of our production and work constructively with members of the Williams and White team to help our efforts for continuous improvement.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out inspections on incoming and outgoing material and shipments as required by customer specifications and Williams and White practices
  • Document the findings of inspections in a standard manner so that findings can be easily retrieved
  • Prepare quality documentation for customers
  • Prepare summary statistics (weekly and monthly) related to findings, and identify trends in quality outcomes
  • Lead root-cause analysis of defects to determine root causes and, in concert with other team members, propose counter-measures
  • Carry out required calibration of measurement devices, log calibrations, and track certification requirements for calibration devices.
  • Liaise with customers as directed by Project Manager, Estimators or Account Managers to clarify customer quality requirements: attend meetings with customers as required
  • Participate with the team to resolve NCRs to customers’ satisfaction

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Deep knowledge of machining and fabrication and ability to interpret engineering drawings is mandatory.
  • 2 – 5 years of quality control experience in an organization that has an established quality program
  • Strong ability using manual inspection equipment (micrometers, calipers, bore gauge etc.)
  • Some formal or practical exposure to quality control and quality management concepts, demonstrated by either 1) Certification or currently working toward certification (e.g. ASQ equivalents), or 2) courses with a focus on quality control, quality assurance, or quality systems, or 3) equivalent experience working in a quality management environment
  • Strong ability to read machining drawings
  • Excellent ability to communicate on the phone in English
  • Huge attention to detail and deadlines
  • Commitment to telling the truth, regardless of the pressure to ship
  • Experience being involved in process improvement initiatives
  • A history of developing and improving the quality systems they have been working in
  • An ability to get other people on-side
  • Computer skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, the MS Windows computer environment
  • Strong capabilities with application of statistics to quality information
  • Ability to clearly communicate detailed information
  • Ability to resolve disagreements in a constructive fashion
  • Manufacturing background is essential
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing methods and philosophy is an asset
  • Familiarity with Faro Arms / CMM is an asset

  • Metal fabrication inspection: 2 years (preferred)
  • Machined part inception: 3 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • CWB Welding Inspector Certificate (preferred)
