Overview
Activities related to the service function of Welding and Machining. The maintenance and repair of mining equipment as well as the fabrication and maintenance of various components. Provides a safe work environment by enforcing safety policies, cooperating with site safety policies and participating in site specific safety programs. Evaluates and maintains the welding Work Order and Information System to ensure effective and full utilization of the system.
Safety. Ensures all department activities are conducted in full compliance with safety, health and environmental standards, company rules and processes and other applicable legislation. Performs random audits to check processes. Works with direct reports to resolve unresolved issues and brings any remaining unresolved issues to the next level of management. Brings awareness to safety by participating fully in all Branch and Company safety programs.
Collaborates with the General Manager and Superintendents, to create, monitor and implement the scheduling plan to effectively manage workload, support business objectives and maximize productivity. Supports and provides the development, maintenance and continual improvement of the Division’s Quality Management System with the Reliability Manager.
Communications and relationships with customers. Meets regularly with general and maintenance management to ensure that the service function is delivering the quality and type of service to meet or exceed their needs. Facilitates customer negotiations providing win-win solutions to both sides. Ensures timely and effective resolution of product service and warranty problems. Obtains manufacturer or supplier commitments or assistance as necessary for service support programs.
Directs a team of trades professionals ensuring team direction supports objectives and maximizes internal and external customer experience. Communicates goals and objectives, measures results, coaches individuals and teams for improvement and positive morale. Supervises and trains employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Assists in union contract interpretation, compliance with company policies, and adherence to quality control standards.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary degree in related education with +10 years industry experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered. +5 years of supervisory experience is also a requirement. Additional qualifications include previous experience with:
General working knowledge of the heavy mining equipment area as well the technical expertise for the Komatsu line of products SMS Equipment Inc. currently services.
Developing, planning, and implementing short- and long-range goals.
Planning and organizational skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and complete projects.
Contract documents and specifications.
Customer service standards and procedures.
Coordinating quality assurance programs in area of specialty.
Resolving, implement, and enforce safety programs.
Knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures.
Analyzing and interpreting financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.
Working knowledge of labour relations and personnel management.
Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Effective interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy with a variety of individuals and groups.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of individuals and groups.
