Overview

ABSA, the pressure equipment safety authority, is looking for a technical professional to join our Design Survey department in the position of Welding Procedure Specialist. This position is responsible for reviewing welding, brazing, & joining procedures to ensure they comply with applicable codes and regulations. This includes ASME section IX as well as various pressure equipment codes of construction. In addition, this position provides valuable technical guidance to clients and ABSA Safety Codes Officers regarding welding and related metallurgical questions. The Welding Procedure Specialist plays a key role in ensuring ABSA continues to lead in pressure equipment safety. Registration applications are often time sensitive which requires the individual to be able to manage multiple priorities at the same time.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Providing consistent and efficient reviews of registration applications.
  • Providing technical guidance to other ABSA programs such as pressure welder testing and welding examiners.
  • Providing customer service and support to clients on welding compliance inquiries.
  • Maintaining awareness of changes in materials and welding technology as it pertains to pressure equipment.
  • Assisting with the delivery of seminars and other training materials used by ABSA.

Qualifications & Attributes
The Welding Procedure Specialist will become a certified Safety Codes Officer at ABSA. The minimum education requirements for a Safety Codes Officer are achievement of at least one of the following credentials:

  • A 4 year engineering degree in Materials, Metallurgical, or Mechanical Engineering, or
  • a 2 year technical diploma in Welding or Materials engineering technology.

In addition to the above certifications, the ideal candidate will possess:

  • A desire to contribute to the safety of people and integrity of equipment.
  • Excellent written & verbal English language communication skills.
  • The ability to self-manage their time and priorities.
  • A positive attitude and a desire to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the team.
