Position Overview

As a Welding Superintendent you will play a significant part in the success for Kiewit. You will function as a field supervisor over welding operations on our projects where you will directly interact with the welders in providing guidance on welding techniques, implement welding related processes/procedures, and ensure we maintain highest level of welding quality. You may have responsibility for multiple Foreman, and/or laborers/craft workers. You with be responsible for the organization, work methods, scheduling, cost control, conformity with drawings and specification, workmanship, and assignment of work to accomplish the execution of the work, either directly or through General Foreman or Foreman. You will also work to maintain positive working relationships with clients, architect/engineer, suppliers, subcontractors, and jobsite staff.

District Overview

Kiewit Energy Canada is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. We are a major industrial contractor that work on projects that involve construction of oil & gas facilities such as oilsands processing, including steam–assisted gravity drainage facilities, upgrading & refining, midstream facilities, power & co-generation, terminal projects (ex. LNG, LPG, etc.), and major mine developments. We also have a Modular Yard facility in Edmonton, Alberta. Our engineering branch is a leading-edge division that offers innovative engineering services for our current projects and new pursuits in Canada. Our design services group are based in Calgary and Houston offering expertise in process, piping, mechanical, electrical and civil/structural disciplines.

Location

We are primarily looking for superintendents in the Edmonton, AB and Calgary, AB region but able to travel to Burnaby, BC and Hope, BC.

Responsibilities

Mentor B-pressure pipe welders

Review weld indications and rejections to provide training to welders

Perform pre-job testing on welders to verify competency

Develop a program to maintain good client relations involving staff on site

Initiate and attend supplementary and regular meeting with client for problem resolution and planning

Oversee and approve the monthly job cost updates and quarterly cash flow projections

Review, approve and negotiate change orders

Develop and implement a plan for project completion and turnover

Maintain daily diary for record keeping purposes

Ensure that all performance evaluations and completed in a timely fashion for direct reports

Recommend, where appropriate, organizational, policy and procedural or staff changes

Review and approve or reject promotions up to General Foremen.

Qualifications

6+ years’ construction experience with 1+ years being in a Superintendent/Leadership capacity. Must have a journeyman B-pressure ticket with experience as a welder.

Must be a self-starter, highly motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding Kiewit’s policies, procedures and software programs.

Ability to identify and resolve any problems that may arise.

Excellent organizational, administrative, communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong experience in leadership, safety, negotiations, planning, and contract administration.
