Overview

The Shoreline Power Group is a Joint Venture of Aecon, AECOM and SNC-Lavalin. Shoreline Power Group will be completing the Fuel Channel and Feeder Replacement (FCFR) project. The joint venture has been awarded a contract by Bruce Power to execute the Unit 6 FCFR at the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station in Kincardine, Ontario.

This project is part of Bruce Power’s Life Extension Program, which will allow Bruce Power’s CANDU units to continue to operate safely through to 2064, the project is the centerpiece of the Major Component Replacement (MCR) program to replace the main components of the reactor. Unit 6 is the first of six reactors being replaced by Bruce Power through the MCR program.

The scope of work includes the removal and replacement of calandria tubes, pressure tubes, and feeders for Unit 6, as well as construction management and trade labour. Work is scheduled to commence in June 2020, with expected completion in the third quarter of 2022.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Reporting to the Area Manager or Tooling Manager/Lead, the Equipment Electrical/Mechanical Technician is responsible for supporting any tooling designs, preventative maintenance, and repair activities associated with MCR Feeder and Fuel Channel Replacement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for all electrical and mechanical maintenance on the MCR project tooling.

Develop tooling repair/maintenance procedures as applicable for each of the different project equipment sets, using knowledge of manufactures specifications and design intent.

Provide expertise and work closely with supervisors, tooling engineers, welders, mechanics, multiple trades, utilizing different tooling systems designs.

Prepare and coordinate all required activities to ensure that site conditions are suitable for the planned refurbishment activities, prior to mobilization to the site.

Maintain a regular job-site presence to continuously monitor and provide support for all required tooling maintenance and repair activities.

Manage the procurement and storge of all required spare tooling, components, and consumables; ensuring that all components are available for optimal tooling performance.

Ensure that the project tooling and equipment is correctly configured for the respective operation.

Perform and record all required preventative maintenance activities on the respective tooling.

Participate and/or Lead any tooling related troubleshooting activities required during tooling development and/or operations at site.

Report all tooling issues and Human Performance issues, to Supervision.

Support emergent tooling development activities.

Preparation of Aecon Technical Specifications and requisitions for all tooling spare components, consumables, including special purchasing instructions based on the tooling design.

Other tasks as assigned by Manager.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure all work is performed in accordance with respective tooling maintenance manuals and Aecon Red Book Safety requirements.

Ability to interpret Aecon and customer drawings/schematics, codes, standards, procedures and communicate findings with the applicable project personnel.

Ensure process control is maintained throughout critical tooling maintenance and operation.

Manage and maintain comprehensive spare component and consumable inventory to ensure proper tooling operation.

Maintain and execute regular preventative maintenance on all program tooling to ensure optimal operation.

Provide OPEX on tooling design changes that would optimize tooling maintenance and performance

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Minimum 3 years of manufacturing/fabrication or related industry, knowledge.

Graduate of Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical Program or equivalent, or equivalent practical experience.

Strong working knowledge of electrical/electronic schematics and use of proper diagnostic equipment are essential.

Strong working knowledge and interpretation of mechanical drawings are essential.

Manual disassembly/assembly of equipment, electrical/electronic components and umbilical assemblies are essential.

Knowledge of Liburdi welding systems and equipment is an asset.

Knowledge of Wachs SDB and EB2 Milling equipment is an asset.

Strong written, verbal communication and problem-solving skills

Working knowledge with MS based computer applications.

Working knowledge on Solid works or CATIA an asset.

Work well in a Team Environment.

Due to the nature of work conducted by Aecon, mandated nuclear export controls requirements must be met for employment
