The Welded Heat Exchanger (WHE) Repair Mechanic Team Leader will act as the go-to resource for all WHE inspections, supply scope, repair processes, and documentation. Working directly with the Technical Coordinators and Management on all WHE production needs.

OBJECTIVE (broad function, scope and purpose for the position)

Performs a variety of duties to disassemble, inspect, repair, assemble and test Welded Heat Exchanger products to bring them up to specification standards, including welding. Products supported include Spiral and Compabloc WHE units for our internal and external customers.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION (outline job duties and responsibilities):

Opening, complete disassembly, prepping, reassembly and testing customer equipment as needed

Utilizes pneumatic, power, hydraulic and hand tools to complete tasks

Cleaning hardware, chasing threads, and installing hardware as needed

Assist in shipping, receiving, counting, labeling and distribution of Alfa Laval parts/customer equipment

Maintains a solid knowledge base of Alfa Laval approved SOPs/WIs for all primary WHE processes

Accurately completes WHE Service Reports, and reads Drawings as job moves through shop

Assist in diagnosing and troubleshooting quality issues on customer equipment, and effectively communicate AL parts and workmanship quality concerns

Dye penetration inspection process – Hand clean areas to be inspected, Rinse remaining dye

Inspect, service, test and package following policies, SOPs, Quality standards and Safety guidelines

Works from drawings, parts lists, blueprints, charts, tables and graphs

Follows job-specific quality plans and drawings to repair products and complete jobs

Diagnoses, checks and correct mechanical functions through adjustments, using various tools and approved repair methods

Responsible for completing Service Reports with pictures, notations and recommendations

Moves material as needed via forklifts, overhead cranes, mobile tables, hand trucks, etc.

Recognizes and communicates the need for replenishment of supplies,

ASME certified on materials P1-P15. Sets-up and operates manual, semi-automatic and automatic welding equipment as required for TiG, MiG, arc, air arc, plasma transferred welding and fusing operations

Adheres to welding trade practices to layout, fit, level, align and weld parts. Selects proper welding tips, rods, wire and amperage.

Keeps work area and surrounding equipment clean and organized. Performs housekeeping as required at the facility to maintain a professional presentation – 5S

Perform daily safety tasks (i.e. daily forklift inspections, , under hook chain/sling inspections,

May be asked to perform field service work to assist Field Service Engineers (not frequent or required)

Active and positive participant in ALPS meetings and improvement initiatives

Perform work in other areas as needed to level work load

Perform other duties as directed by Management

Reports to Service Center Manager or Supervisor. Must work independently to evaluate and repair products. Must work unsupervised performing job responsibilities as trained and instructed. Cooperate with Team Leader (or designee) and work effectively in a strong team environment; continually seeking ways to improve repair process and techniques. Must be able to interact in a professional manner with administrative staff and co-workers.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION DESIRED:
Education (degree or years) and/or Certification/Registration:

High School degree or Equivalent

Welding certifications, a plus (ASME cert not required)

Type and Length of Experience:
Typically 3 years manual repair/workshop/manufacturing environment

Experience operating fork lift trucks, hand pallet jacks and overhead cranes.

Previous Tig welding experience with Stainless Steel, Titanium, and Hastelloy a plus

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes Desired in Candidate:

Demonstrated ability to understand complicated blue prints, drawings, sketches and work instructions

Demonstrated ability to use micrometers and gauges in both English and Metric measures

Demonstrated good mechanical aptitude

Demonstrated good punctuality and work ethic

Demonstrated ability to diagnose mechanical problems

Basic computer knowledge and MS office suite (clocking in and out, scanning bar codes)

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Physical Requirements (lifting, climbing, standing, equipment use):

Must be able to lift and carry 60 lbs. as required.

Must wear company supplied uniforms and maintain professional business presentation
