Job Summary:

This position is for a Crater with fabricating custom wooden crates experience, enjoys working with their hands, self-motivated, attentive to detail, and takes pride in achieving performance excellence.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Build crates and skids using woodworking hand tools and powered tools.
  • Packs items such as machinery, shafts, pedestals, large and odd-shaped products.
  • Reads work order instructions, shipping notices, and other specifications.
  • Inspects product to determine size and shape of container materials to be used, and types of supports and braces to be used.
  • Lays out dimensions on materials with ruler, measuring tape, and pencil.
  • Saws material to size, using handsaws and power saws.
  • Assembles materials, using nailing or stapling machine, screws bolts, glue, and hand tools.
  • Places product in container, manually or using hoist.
  • Bolts heavy pieces to bottom of container or skid.
  • Wraps and pads product with packing materials.
  • Wraps and tightens metal bands around crate, using banding equipment.
  • Generates and attaches identification labels.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures paying special attention to health and safety procedures.
  • Maintains clean, orderly, and safe work areas.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

Physical:

  • Sitting, Standing, and Walking.
  • Carrying, Stooping, Lifting and Reaching.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is generally required to stand, bend, kneel, twist, push, and pull.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds routinely.

Mental:

  • Math.
  • The use of the English language, both Oral and Written.
  • Requires daily communication with multiple departments to insure maximum efficiency.

Education & Skills:

  • OSSD High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical School Diploma, Trade Certificate or Equivalent Certificate of Qualifications.
  • Exceptional communication and technical skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Math, including geometry and trigonometry.
  • Knowledge of both manual and electrical tools.
  • Proficient in English language, both oral and written.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and maintains excellent follow-through and follow-up.
  • Performs well in a fast-paced environment and can multitask with ease.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years packaging and wood working experience.

Working Conditions:

  • Hours of operation: 7:30am to 4pm

COVID-19 considerations:
All employees must be vaccinated including customers, contractors and visitors in order to access the site. Twice a week rapid testing implemented. All provincial and local COVID protocols in place such as hand sanitizer, mask wearing & social distancing.

Experience:

  • Canadian Manufacturing: 3 years (required)
  • packaging and wood working: 3 years (preferred)
