Job Description

Certified Welder / Fitters are responsible for repairing and maintaining various equipment in the Houma, LA Yard and will report to the Fabrication Leaderman.

Essential Job Functions

  • Ability to troubleshoot problems, identify, propose and implement remedies
  • Perform repairs and maintenance aboard dredges and other marine vessels
  • Install, assemble, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various equipment.
  • Fabricate with different types of metals via torches, plasma & other related craft power tools.
  • Understanding of diagrams, schematics, drawings and technical manuals for repairs and diagnostics of equipment.
  • Understand and sketch complex mechanical and structural drawings
  • Utilize instruments to measure angles, material thickness and distances i.e. – squares, levels, tapes & other craft related devices
  • Regularly communicate and work with contractors, vendors, and other trades
  • Ensure work areas are kept clean and well organized
  • Complete assigned tasks in a safe/productive manner
  • Follows all company and work site safety policies/procedures and commits to an “Incident and Injury Free” work environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 3+ years of fabrication and shipyard experience
  • Technical understanding of stick, tig/mig & flux-core processes
  • Experience in weld testing procedures i.e. – visual inspection, pressure testing, dye penetrant & hydrostatic.
  • Understanding of ABS, OSHA, and USCG regulations related to field
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s license, with no major infractions
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the job site
  • TWIC – Transportation Worker Identification Credential (preferred)
  • Travel (by land, air, and water) to field locations up to 25%, transportation paid.
  • Ability to work a 50-hour work week M-F, overtime as needed

Required Certifications (Anyone of the four)

  • FCAW-6GR (Preferred)
  • SMAW-6GR (Preferred)
  • FCAW-3G & 4G
  • SMAW-3G & 4G

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat and lift for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work at heights, climb ladders, stairways and work from elevated platforms. Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow and wind; and must be able to work for long period of times up to 12 hours a day.
